The Boston Terrier Called Dibs on the Box. Then the Piglet Climbed In.
Somebody brought home a cardboard box, and the Boston Terrier took one look and claimed it. He sits inside on a white blanket, his dark brindle face alert, black ears tilted at different angles, and his big round eyes aimed straight ahead. Beside him, a pink piglet squeezes into the same box, snout wrinkled and ears warm in the sunlight. Clothes, toys, and a stuffed bunny are scattered across the floor around them.
If it fits, he sits, as the saying goes, and dogs and cats are not the only ones who love boxes. Small spaces give animals a sense of security, which is why so many pets curl up in boxes, baskets, and cubbies. Boston Terriers are social, fun-loving dogs who enjoy being part of any activity. A box is a fine cozy spot, as long as it is clean, dry, and free of staples or tape, and nobody chews it into pieces. Piglets also like to hide in snug places, and a box with soft bedding can give a young pig a feeling of safety.
We can call the piglet Pearl. She does not quite fit, yet somehow she makes it work, and the Terrier has made room without any complaint. Together they fill the box right to the rim. Their warm little corner of the world is cardboard, but to them it is a castle with excellent views.
