A Great Dane and a Tiny Piglet Sat Together Among the Sunflowers
A field of sunflowers stands tall and golden in the late light, and in the middle of it sits a blue-grey Great Dane with a thoughtful expression and a wrinkled brow. His ears drape softly down either side of his face and his chest looks as broad as a barn door. Just beside his shoulder, a small pink piglet sits upright, snout lifted, ears forward, gazing in the same direction. A fence line and green pasture fade into the distance behind them.
Great Danes are among the gentlest of the giant breeds. Even though they can be huge, many are calm and affectionate, and they get along well with smaller animals when raised with them. They need space, steady exercise, and a diet suited to large breeds, so a conversation with your vet about feeding and joint health is a great idea. Sunflowers are generally considered safe for pets to be around, but the sharp stalks and the dried seed heads can still be a nuisance. Make sure neither animal eats too many seeds, and keep an eye on summer heat.
Let's call the piglet Pearl. She is so small beside her friend that the sunflowers look like skyscrapers. They sit together, quiet, as the light turns golden and the petals glow. It is the end of a good day, and the two of them look content to watch it close, side by side, like old friends.
