Frost Covered the Glass While the Golden Kept the Kittens Warm
Frost has crept across the window in feathery patterns, but the blanket on the sill is warm. A cream Golden Retriever rests his big, gentle face near a heap of sleeping kittens, his eyes lowered to watch them. Orange, grey, black, and tabby kittens are curled on the soft knit throw, noses tucked into one another's fur. A plaid blanket and a mug sit in the background.
Cold windows can be chilly spots, even in a warm room, so a thick blanket is a good idea for kittens, who lose heat fast. Keep them away from drafts, and make sure the sill is sturdy and secure. Golden Retrievers have a reputation for gentleness, and many of them take naturally to caring for smaller animals. They also shed a lot, so expect plenty of golden fur on the blanket. If you are looking after young kittens in the colder months, ask your vet about the right temperature and bedding.
The Retriever lets out a quiet sigh, and a few of the kittens stir in their sleep. He does not move. Outside, the frost is still spreading, but in here, everything is soft and quiet. It is a good day to stay in, and he has everything he needs: a warm blanket, a bright window, and a whole litter to watch. The frost can have the window, and the sleepers can have everything else.
