By the Wood Stove, a Ragdoll Found the Perfect Pillow
Firewood is stacked neatly beside the black wood stove, and on the braided rug in front of it, two sleepers have melted into each other. A cream point Ragdoll lies stretched out with her fluffy tail curled behind her and her face pressed against the puppy's back. The golden puppy, Biscuit, has his nose tucked down and his eyes closed. A gray blanket is bunched under them, and the room feels warm, quiet, and unhurried.
Ragdolls are a large, semi-longhaired breed often described as gentle and affectionate. Many seem comfortable being picked up and enjoy staying close to their people. A long coat like hers does need regular brushing to prevent tangles, and a few minutes a week keeps it comfortable.
A wood stove is a wonderful thing on a cold day, but it calls for some pet safety. The surface can get dangerously hot, so use a proper guard or keep pets at a safe distance, and never leave animals unsupervised near an open fire. Also make sure the area is clear of loose fabric and that your fireplace tools are stored where curious paws can't reach them. If your pet likes to sleep near warmth, a soft bed a few feet away is a safer choice.
The glow from the stove makes the whole scene look like a lullaby. The Ragdoll seems perfectly content as the puppy's pillow, and neither of them has any intention of waking up before supper.
