The Silver Tabby Slept in the Basket While the Lab Stood Guard
The silver tabby has the soft bed, and the chocolate Lab has the job of guarding it. She sleeps curled in a wicker basket with her striped coat gleaming and her eyes shut tight. Right beside her, a big chocolate Labrador rests his chin on the edge of the basket, his dark eyes half closed, still keeping watch. A stuffed toy sits in the corner of the room, and a gray blanket lies across the floor.
Labrador Retrievers are among the most popular dogs in America for good reason. They are generally friendly, eager to please, and good with families. They also love to be near their people, and sometimes that includes cats. A well-socialized Lab often takes to a cat companion easily.
Labs need plenty of daily exercise and can be prone to overeating, so keep an eye on portions and treats. Cats, for their part, sleep a great deal, often 12 to 16 hours a day, and they appreciate a safe spot like this basket where they can rest without interruption.
The Lab doesn't seem to want the basket for himself. He is quite happy just being close by, serving as sentry while his friend naps. It's a small act of devotion that says plenty without a single bark. The basket stays quiet, and the sentry stays at his post.
