A Border Collie Squeezed Into the Box Where a Black Cat Was Hiding
The box is only half unpacked, and both of its new tenants look very pleased with the arrangement. A red and white Border Collie sits upright with his ears folded over and his amber eyes thoughtful. Squeezed in beside him, a sleek black Devon Rex peeks out with enormous ears and golden eyes. Slippers, a plaid blanket, and a stuffed bunny wait on the shelf behind, and the room has the cheerful clutter of a busy household.
Border Collies are widely considered one of the smartest dog breeds, and they have a strong herding instinct. They need lots of exercise and brain games to stay happy. A collie with nothing to do may start herding anything that moves, including the family cat, so give him jobs like puzzles, training, and long walks.
Devon Rex cats are known for their short, wavy coats and big ears, and many are playful, social, and eager to be near their people. They often enjoy warm spots, and a snug box is perfect. Cats of all kinds like the safe feeling of enclosed spaces, which is why a plain cardboard box can beat an expensive bed. Remove tape and staples first to keep it safe.
It looks like the collie has found a calm moment and the cat has found a warm shoulder to lean on. A box does not get much better than this: two friends, one cozy corner, and a whole afternoon with no plans at all.
