A Saint Bernard and a Gray Cat Dozed Off in the Porch Hammock
The hammock sags in the middle, and two sleepers have settled right in the dip. A red and white Saint Bernard lies with his chin resting on the edge, his eyes closed and his jowls relaxed. Curled against him, a gray Exotic Shorthair has tucked in her paws, her flat face turning away in total contentment. The striped fabric stretches wide around them, and an open doorway behind shows a quiet room.
A hammock can be a wonderful nap spot, but check that it's safe for your pets' weight and that the fabric and ropes are secure. Big dogs like Saint Bernards weigh a lot, and a sagging or old hammock can tear. Keep an eye on pets while they're lying in it, and never leave a young animal alone where it could fall.
Saint Bernards are patient and mild-mannered, so it's no surprise this one is sharing his hammock. Exotic Shorthairs are calm cats who appreciate a quiet rest. With her short, plush coat, she is cozy against the dog's warm side.
A porch hammock on a lazy afternoon is a gentle sort of heaven. The air is warm, the world is quiet, and the two friends have made up their minds to do nothing at all. If you listen carefully, you could almost hear them breathing together. Even the hammock seems to be rocking more slowly, so as not to wake them.
