A Jack Russell Finally Stopped Moving and the Calf Joined Him
A canvas hammock sags gently between the posts of an old porch, and it is occupied. A white and tan Jack Russell Terrier lies with his eyes closed and his head resting on the fabric. Clover the calf curls up beside him, her white face tucked in, her ears soft. A potted plant, some old gardening gloves and a leafy yard can be seen beyond the porch rail. It is the kind of afternoon that tends to make everything slow down.
Jack Russell Terriers are small but full of energy. They were originally bred for hunting and are quick, clever and always on the go. A nap like this is a rare sight for a terrier, and it probably means he has had plenty of exercise. Jack Russells need lots of mental stimulation, so puzzle toys and training games help prevent boredom. They are also known for their jumping skills, so keep an eye on them near fences or gates. A hammock is a fun place to rest, though it is best if a person is nearby to supervise.
The terrier looks completely worn out, and the calf is just as sleepy. The porch is quiet, the hammock rocks gently, and neither of them plans to move any time soon. The hammock sways a little with each breath, and the afternoon drifts by without anyone noticing it.
