The Sunbeam Landed on the Floor and Two Sleepers Claimed It

A bright rectangle of sunshine has landed on the wooden floor, and two sleepers have found it. A silver-grey Weimaraner lies stretched out with his long nose resting on one paw and his eyes shut, his sleek coat shining in the light. Clover the calf lies beside him with her head down and her pink nose almost on the boards. The whitewashed wall, a bucket and a hanging coat make the corner feel like a quiet farm room.

Weimaraners are athletic, elegant dogs, sometimes nicknamed gray ghosts for their silvery coats and pale eyes. They were bred for hunting, so they are full of stamina and often need a great deal of exercise every day. They also tend to bond closely with their families and can become anxious when left alone for long periods. A daily routine with plenty of activity and company helps a Weimaraner stay content. Sunlit naps are a good reward after a busy morning, and a warm floor is one of a dog's favorite places to rest.

The Weimaraner looks completely relaxed, and the calf is at ease beside him. The sun will move, and they will probably follow it, one sleepy shuffle at a time. The old boards hold the warmth well, and it will be a long while before either of them thinks about getting up.
