A Birman and an Old Tortoise Cuddled Up Beside the Hearth
Cold ashes and a few logs sit in the old stone fireplace, and two companions rest in front of it on a rough burlap cloth. A seal point Birman with a dark face, bright blue eyes and snowy white paws sits upright, her fluffy coat glowing in the soft light. Moss the tortoise lies snug against her with his head stretched out and his scaly front leg resting on the cloth. A dried plant in a pot adds a quiet touch to the corner.
A cozy hearth is a favorite place for pets in cooler weather, but fireplaces call for care. Always use a sturdy screen when a fire is lit, and keep pets, blankets and rugs away from hot stones and embers. Tortoises need steady, controlled warmth, and a fireplace is not a safe or reliable heat source for a reptile, so ask your vet about a proper heated enclosure. Birmans are gentle, affectionate cats that often enjoy company, which makes this cuddle a natural fit. A calm, cool fireplace like this is a better spot for a short rest than a roaring one.
The Birman looks content, and Moss looks perfectly at ease. Together they make a quiet picture of patience and warmth. The hearth is calm, the room is still, and the afternoon seems to stretch on forever.
