The Dog Bed Was Built for One Husky. Clover Had a Different Idea.
The round cream dog bed is plush as a cloud, and a gray and white Husky has wrapped himself around its edge with his pale blue-green eye just barely open. Cuddled up nose to nose with him is Clover, the small brown rabbit, her ears folded back and her little front paws tucked in. Behind them a tidy living room is in a lived-in jumble: a basket of laundry, a stuffed bunny on the floor, and a wooden table stacked with toys and a half-empty glass.
Huskies are social dogs that often like being near their family, and many enjoy a cozy bed when the day is done. Because of their thick coats, though, they also like cool floors, so it is common to see a Husky choose the bed one minute and bare wood the next. A good dog bed should be washable and the right size, and a rabbit sharing it should always be able to hop out easily. Keep an eye out for chewing, since soft filling is not good to swallow. If you are ever unsure about a bedding choice, your vet is a useful resource.
It is a wonderfully crowded bed. The Husky has made room for his friend without moving much at all, and Clover has claimed the best patch of warmth right by his chin. Everything around them is a little messy, which somehow makes the scene feel more like home. This is what a quiet evening looks like when two very different creatures agree on one thing: the bed is big enough.
