The Puppy Climbed Into the Box. The Pony Leaned Over to Take a Look.
The puppy has claimed the box, and he is not giving it up. A fluffy black Newfoundland puppy sits in a cardboard box with a toothy grin, his round brown eyes bright and a bit of straw sticking out beside him. Pebble the little tan pony has leaned over the side with her woolly mane tumbling forward, giving the puppy a long, curious look. Behind them, a basket of dog toys and a sofa suggest the box is in a living room.
Newfoundland puppies are bundles of fluff that grow into some of the largest dogs around, so even a small puppy has big paws to grow into. They are gentle, sweet-natured and often good with other animals, but because they will grow very large, early training is essential. Cardboard boxes are a classic favorite for many animals, though pets should not eat the cardboard. Ponies need a good deal more room than a living room and should be indoors only briefly. If a puppy and pony share space, a vet can recommend sensible boundaries.
The pony's face is full of questions. Why is there a puppy in the box? Is there room? What is that straw doing there? The puppy seems unbothered, enjoying his box like a throne. He looks up at her with great satisfaction, clearly feeling that he has the best seat in the house. For the moment, nobody argues, and the box belongs to him.
