One Hairless Cat, One Fluffy Bunny, and the Sunniest Boards in the Yard

Sun-warmed boards are the best bed in the yard. A gray Sphynx lies stretched along the wooden deck, her wrinkled skin catching the light and her yellow-green eyes turned to the side with a watchful glint. Her big batlike ears point up and outward. Right beside her, a soft gray lop-eared bunny rests with her ears draped, her cheek almost touching the cat's shoulder. A wooden fence runs along the back of the yard, a potted plant sits in the corner, and the afternoon shadows are long and gentle.

Sphynx cats have no coat to hold in heat, so many of them seek out sunny spots, warm laps and heating pads. It is a natural instinct, but because their skin is exposed, they can sunburn, and long hours in direct sun may be too much. A shady retreat nearby is always smart. Rabbits are the opposite, since they can overheat easily, so they need a cooler place to retreat when the sun is strong. If your pets share a sunny spot like this one, keep the visits short, make water available, and watch both animals for signs of discomfort. A vet can help with sun and heat safety.

The two look comfortable together despite their differences, one smooth and bare and the other plush and soft. A little sunshine and a friend nearby is all they need.
