A Basset Hound Shared His Plush Bed With a Very Small Horse
Those long, droopy ears are practically a pillow. A lemon and white Basset Hound lies on a shaggy cream dog bed with his sad, sweet eyes aimed straight ahead, and a small chestnut horse has curled up right alongside him, its muzzle tucked against the dog's shoulder. The room behind them is a cozy jumble of boots, boxes and baskets, and a light from the window falls softly across them both. The hound's paws are crossed neatly in front, and the horse's eyelashes rest against his fur as though it is the softest thing in the world.
Basset Hounds are low, long-eared scent hounds with a famously relaxed attitude. They are friendly and easygoing, but those short legs and long backs mean they need care. Keeping a Basset at a healthy weight and avoiding big jumps protects their spine, and their long ears need regular cleaning because they trap moisture and dirt.
A dog bed is a safe haven, and many dogs like to guard theirs, so sharing a bed is a real sign of trust. If your dog is willing to share, give them plenty of praise. If not, give them their own quiet corner and make sure other pets cannot take it over.
For now the bed is full, the hound is calm and the little horse is warm. Sometimes the best friendships come in the shape of a snuggle. Soft beds make soft friends.
