A Saint Bernard and a Little Horse Both Claimed the Same Box
It looks like a tight fit, but neither one is complaining. A red and white Saint Bernard has settled into a large cardboard box, his big head resting on the edge, and right beside him sits a small chestnut horse, its mane fluffed and its ears forward. Colorful building blocks and a rope toy lie on the floor nearby, and a sunlit window brightens the corner of the room. The pair seem unbothered by the clutter, and a stuffed toy lies abandoned by the box, long forgotten, as if the day has just begun.
The cardboard box has a special magic for animals. It offers a snug hiding place and a sense of safety, and curious pets of all kinds are drawn to it. Cats are the famous fans, but dogs love a good box too. Make sure any box you offer has no staples or sharp edges and is not so tight that the animal gets stuck.
Saint Bernards are big, gentle dogs that usually do well with other animals. They are heavy, so they need roomy spots for resting, and they do best in cooler temperatures. Their thick coat needs regular brushing. A dog this large is mostly a soft, slow-moving cuddler.
It's a snug, silly and wonderful picture. A simple box can hold a whole friendship. The simplest hideouts are often the best.
