A Great Dane Puppy and a Pony Found Something in the Pond
The backyard pond is small and still, edged with reeds, and two curious faces are leaning over it. A spotted Great Dane puppy with floppy ears and a wrinkled brow looks down at the water, while a shaggy brown pony stands beside him and does the same. A house and a fence stand behind them, and a coiled hose lies in the grass.
Great Danes are among the tallest dog breeds, known as gentle giants. Puppies grow remarkably fast and can be clumsy, with big paws they have not yet grown into. Careful feeding and moderate exercise are important for large breeds, since fast growth can stress their joints, and your vet can plan a healthy routine. Despite their size, they usually have a sweet and sensitive temperament.
Water draws the attention of many animals. Dogs may want to splash, and ponies may want to drink or investigate their reflection. A garden pond should be watched, though. Algae and stagnant water can upset a pet's stomach, and soft banks can be slippery. If you want a pet to drink, fresh water in a clean bowl is a better choice.
The two look as if they are gazing into the water together, wondering what is down there. It is a small mystery with a quiet audience, and the calm evening makes it feel important.
