Frost Covered the Window, and Two Friends Huddled Behind It
Frost patterns creep across the window glass, and a tiny string of lights glows in the corner. On a pile of knitted blankets by the sill, a scruffy brown and white puppy with a whiskery chin sits with his big eyes turned to the side. Next to him, a shaggy pony rests his head close, his forelock falling in his eyes. A lamp and a potted plant add to the warmth of the room.
Mixed-breed puppies, especially those with a wiry coat, often have a charm all their own. Their looks and personalities can be a delightful surprise, and many shelters have plenty of puppies waiting for homes. If you adopt one, a vet check and a calm routine in the first weeks will help him settle in. Wiry coats may need occasional brushing and trimming, and a groomer can show you how.
Winter can be a tough season for pets. Cold floors, icy windows, and short days all mean more time indoors, and animals benefit from a warm bed away from drafts. Short bathroom breaks outside, dry paws, and plenty of cuddle time help puppies stay comfortable. Ponies grow thick winter coats, so they can handle the cold better, but they still need shelter, hay, and water.
The frost is on the glass, but in here it is warm. The puppy and pony lean together and look out at the cold from a snug spot. It is the best way to meet winter.
