A Dachshund Puppy Found the Warmest Towels, and a Pony Joined Him
A wicker basket is piled high with soft beige towels, and two friends have tucked themselves inside. A chocolate-brown Dachshund puppy with long floppy ears rests his chin on a towel and looks up with wide eyes, while a pale cream pony with a fluffy forelock presses close beside him. A window and a wall in a cozy room show in the background.
Dachshunds love to burrow. The breed was developed to follow badgers underground, so pups often dig into blankets, pillows, and laundry piles. A basket of towels is just the sort of thing a Dachshund puppy sees as a den. Because of their long backs, it is a good idea to help them avoid jumping down from high places, and your vet can offer tips on spine care.
If you have a dog who loves the laundry basket, a few cautions apply. Check the basket before you start the machine, and keep small items like socks out of reach, since some pups like to swallow them. A towel set aside as a regular bed gives him a safe place to snuggle. Ponies, of course, belong in the barn, but this basket is a lovely way to imagine a perfect nap.
The towels are warm, the room is quiet, and both friends have found just the right spot. Laundry day has been postponed, and nobody minds.
