The Abyssinian Watched the Storm While the Puppy Slept Through It
Raindrops cling to the glass and run in slow lines, and the whole world outside is grey and green. At the window, a ruddy Abyssinian sits upright, big ears angled and amber-green eyes fixed on the weather, her warm brown coat glowing in the soft light. Just below, a golden puppy lies with his head resting on her paw, eyes mostly closed, completely unbothered by the storm. A knitted throw sits on the sill, a plant peeks in from the corner and a thin white wall frames the scene. It is the very definition of a cozy rainy day.
Abyssinians are alert, inquisitive cats who like having a good view of everything. A window perch is a wonderful addition for them and for other cats, because watching birds, rain and passing neighbors keeps their minds busy, and a cat who is fed, played with and given somewhere high to sit is usually a calmer, happier housemate. Rainy days can leave pets restless, so indoor games, puzzle feeders and gentle play are a nice way to burn energy. For puppies, rain is also a good chance to practice calm behavior indoors. If your pets seem anxious during thunder, talk to your vet about ways to help them feel secure.
The cat watches the rain with great seriousness while the puppy treats it as a lullaby. Together they make a very good weather team.
