A Fluffy Puppy and a Shaggy Pony Admired the Pond at Sunset
The pond is glassy, the evening is warm, and two small neighbors have come to admire it. A fluffy white Maltese puppy sits with his head turned a little, his pink tongue peeking out and his dark eyes shining. Next to him stands Pepper, a shaggy little brown pony with a tufty mane and a calm look aimed out over the water.
Lily pads float across the surface, and tall grasses stand at the edge. A wooden fence and the corner of a house sit in the distance. The pair stand so close together that the puppy's fluffy shoulder touches the pony's leg, a tiny detail that makes the whole picture feel companionable.
Maltese puppies are small, silky-coated, and gentle, and they tend to be playful with their favorite people. A white coat shows every bit of mud, so owners often brush and bathe them regularly. Ponds can be hazardous for pets: steep banks, slippery edges, and algae can cause trouble, and some pond water is unsafe to drink. Keep pets from drinking pond water and supervise them near any water. Ponies, too, should drink fresh, clean water instead. If you have a pond on your property, ask your vet about the safest way to let pets enjoy the view.
The ripples fade and the light turns gold. For the moment the world is one quiet pond and two friends who share the view.
