Snowflakes Settled on the Pony While the Puppy Held On Tight
Snow is falling softly across the yard, and a silver-gray Weimaraner puppy has made a decision: his pony friend needs company. The puppy leans against Pepper's shoulder with one big paw resting on the pony's side, his soft floppy ears hanging low. Pepper lies calmly in the snow, his thick tan coat dusted with white and his eyes half closed.
A wooden fence and a few bare shrubs border the yard, and the sky is a pale winter gray. Tiny flakes cling to the pony's mane and to the puppy's smooth coat. The two of them look like a pair who have made the cold their own.
Weimaraner puppies are energetic and affectionate, and they grow into athletic dogs that need lots of exercise and company. Their short coats offer little insulation, so in freezing weather they need a warm place to retreat to and shouldn't stay out for long. Ponies grow thick winter coats and generally handle cold well, but they still need shelter from wind, dry bedding, and constant access to unfrozen water. When a puppy and a pony share a space, supervise their play, since a puppy can be hurt by even a gentle hoof. Your vet can suggest good winter routines for both.
The snow keeps falling and the two keep resting. Some friends keep each other warm just by sitting close.
