The Weimaraner Puppy Used the Pony's Shoulder as a Pillow
Golden light pours into the barn, and a sleepy Weimaraner puppy has found a very soft pillow. His gray head rests on the pony's shoulder, his floppy ears spread out and his eyes tightly shut. Right beside him, a little brown pony named Pepper lies in a heap of hay, his dark mane falling over his cheek and his own eyes closed in peace.
The barn wall behind them is packed with life: rubber boots on the floor, a coil of rope, a tin bucket, a canvas bag hanging on a nail, and a stack of crates filled with hay. Plaid cloth peeks out from one of the boxes. Everything smells, you would guess, like warm straw and old wood.
Weimaraner puppies are affectionate and energetic, with silvery coats and light eyes. They love being close to their people and need plenty of exercise and attention as they grow. A sleepy puppy is a sign of a well-played-out pup. Hay is a staple food for ponies, and a barn is a natural place for them to rest. When dogs and ponies share a barn, keep puppies clear of hooves and out of any feed areas, and make sure clean water is always available. Ask your vet if you have questions about caring for a young dog around larger animals.
The hay is warm and the puppy is dreaming. There are few better places to doze than a friend's shoulder.
