The Pug Puppy Marched Ahead and the Pony Followed Right Behind
The leash is bright blue, the meadow is full of flowers, and the Pug puppy is clearly the one in charge. He trots forward with his tongue out and his dark, curious eyes shining, his curly tail high. Behind him, Pepper the pony follows in a leather halter, calm and unbothered, his long mane falling over his face.
Daisies, clover, and tiny purple blossoms cover the grass. In the corner, a blue watering can, a clay pot, and a pair of gardening gloves sit in a tangle of branches. The light is soft and the grass is damp. It is a morning walk with two very different, very happy walkers.
Pugs are charming, easygoing little dogs with a big love of company. Because they have short noses, they can have trouble breathing in heat or after hard exercise, so keep walks short and cool, and use a harness instead of pulling on the neck. Puppies need regular, gentle exposure to new places and animals so they grow into confident dogs. Ponies are herd animals who often enjoy company, but a pony and a puppy should always be handled by adults on leads. Check for ticks after meadow walks, and ask your vet about parasite control for both.
The Pug may be tiny, but his stride is confident. When you have a friend behind you, any path feels like a parade.
