The Frenchie Dove Into the Leaf Pile and a Calf Followed

The leaf pile is deep, crunchy and glowing in every shade of orange. A cream French Bulldog has flopped onto his side with his big ears drooping and a satisfied look on his flat face, and a brown-and-white calf lies right next to him, her pink nose resting in the leaves. A wooden fence and gray siding stand behind them, and a bright patch of yellow in the corner shows the last of the maple tree.

Autumn leaves are a favorite toy for many dogs. They crunch, they smell like the outdoors, and they are very fun to jump into. A few safety tips help: check piles for hidden sharp objects, avoid damp heaps that might hold mold, and keep an eye on dogs that like to eat what they find. Some mushrooms and acorns that turn up in fall are harmful to pets, so rake them away from play areas.

French Bulldogs are playful and affectionate, and a short bout of fun is usually all they need. Because of their short noses, they can overheat or tire quickly, so keep play gentle and give them plenty of rest. Cooler fall weather is a better match for them than a hot summer day.

The leaves will be raked eventually, but not before these two have enjoyed them. Clover looks very pleased with the crunch, and the Frenchie has no intention of getting up.
