The Ashes Were Cold, and the German Shepherd Had a Fluffy Yellow Blanket
The fire has burned down to ashes, and the room is cozy and quiet. A sable German Shepherd lies stretched out on the wooden floor with her head low and her gentle eyes looking toward the camera, and tucked up against her chest is a group of fluffy yellow ducklings, one of them resting right on her paw. A window with pale curtains lets in a soft light.
German Shepherds are loyal, intelligent dogs that are often protective of their families. They are strong and athletic, and they thrive when they have a job and plenty of exercise. A calm shepherd like this one can be very gentle with small animals, but it takes training and supervision.
Ducklings are drawn to warmth, so a big, calm dog is a very appealing place to snuggle. Still, a hearth is a risk for both ducklings and pets. A fireplace should always have a screen, and ashes and embers should be kept out of reach. Ducklings need a warm, safe place to sleep, clean water and proper food, and a vet or poultry expert can give good advice.
The shepherd looks relaxed and the ducklings look sleepy. It is a very peaceful way to end a long day. The hearth is warm, the floor is soft and nobody has anywhere else to be. A cozy room is all they need tonight.
