The Weimaraner Took the Tractor Seat, and the Lamb Hopped Up Too

Clutter fills the shed, but all eyes go to the old tractor, where a silver-gray Weimaraner sits on the cracked black seat with a white lamb tucked into the curve beside him. The dog's amber eyes and soft, droopy ears give him a wise expression, and his mouth is slightly open in a relaxed pant. The lamb sits calmly, her front legs folded, as though she has ridden this tractor many times. Rope, bales and tools line the shed behind them. Nobody is going to drive anywhere with these two aboard. Dust floats in the light from the doorway, and the dog's coat looks almost blue in the shade.

Weimaraners are athletic, intelligent hunting dogs from Germany, nicknamed the gray ghost because of their sleek silver coats. They need lots of exercise, mental activity and company; a bored Weimaraner can become destructive and some are prone to separation anxiety. They are loyal and often form close bonds with their families. A farm shed like this can hold hazards, such as sharp tools, rusty metal, fuel and chemicals, so it pays to keep pets away from them and to store dangerous items out of reach. Lambs love to climb and explore, so a quick safety sweep keeps everyone well. It's also true that Weimaraners are happier when they live closely with their people, so they dislike being kept outside alone.

The seat may not be comfortable by tractor standards, but for these two it's a throne.
