The Devon Rex Became a Belly Bed for a Sleeping Lop Bunny
Stretched out on a chunky knit blanket, a black Devon Rex lies on her back with her legs sprawled and her enormous ears tilted. Her coat is crinkly and soft, and her amber eyes look half asleep, as if she has surrendered to the afternoon. On her belly, Pudding the pale cream lop-eared bunny is sound asleep, chin pressed against the cat's fur and ears folded beside her. Throw blankets, a potted plant, and a quiet room fill the background.
Devon Rexes are playful, people-loving cats with wavy coats and big ears, and they often like to be warm and close to someone. They can be chilly because their coat is thin, so cozy blankets are popular. Rabbits sleep with their eyes sometimes partly open, and a rabbit that flops over fully relaxed is showing real trust. Since rabbits are fragile and cats are natural hunters, they should only ever share space when supervised, and each should have a safe place to retreat. Ask your vet for tips on introducing a cat and a rabbit.
The belly bed seems to be working well. The cat holds very still, the bunny sleeps deeply, and the knit blanket bunches around them like a nest. It is difficult to look at such a peaceful pair and not feel a little sleepy too, as if the calm were contagious and spreading right across the room.
