The Dachshund and the Bunny Pressed Their Noses to the Chicken Fence
Behind a wire fence, a flock of chickens scratches around in the sun, and two very curious spectators are watching. A chocolate Dachshund presses his long nose to the wire with soft, intent eyes, and next to him a brown bunny does the same with her nose twitching. The yard behind the fence is green, with a watering can and a few flowerpots catching the light. The wire squares catch the light, and a few hens move behind them in the grass.
Chickens and rabbits can share a farm, but they are different animals with different needs, and they should be kept in properly fenced spaces. Dachshunds are curious, keen sniffers who were bred to hunt, so a fence is a good way to let them look without risk. Rabbits, like many small animals, enjoy watching the world go by, and a quiet view can be a form of enrichment. Fresh water and shade matter in any outdoor space.
What a pair of observers they make. Both noses are lifted, both ears alert, and the chickens go about their business without noticing. The bunny's whiskers wiggle, and the dog's ears lift at every cluck.
Sometimes the best entertainment is just watching, and these two are very happy to do it together. The chickens go on pecking and scratching, none the wiser.
