A Bernese Mountain Dog and a Calico Inspect the New Garden Sprouts
Two faces rest side by side on the edge of a raised garden bed. A tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog has laid his chin on the wood, his dark eyes soft and his white blaze running down his nose. Next to him, a calico cat looks into the soil with her ears forward and her eyes wide. Small green sprouts, tiny leaves and a few dried brown leaves cover the bed below. A wire fence and a patch of grass stretch beyond them. They look like gardeners reviewing a new planting.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are calm, affectionate dogs from the Swiss countryside. They are large and sturdy, with a thick coat that sheds, so regular brushing helps. They love being with their families and are often gentle with other pets. A calico cat has orange, black and white patches, and the pattern is almost always seen in females. Gardens are a fun place for pets, but they can hold hidden hazards, as some plants, fertilizers and mulches are harmful to dogs and cats. When in doubt, talk to your vet about what is safe to grow.
Whatever is going on in the soil, the two inspectors are in complete agreement. They're watching with great focus and not a word. A garden always looks better with a pair of experts on the fence.
