A Schnauzer and an Orange Tabby Lean Together on the Porch
Two friends sit shoulder to shoulder on a set of concrete porch steps. A gray Miniature Schnauzer faces forward with his full beard and thoughtful dark eyes, and an orange tabby sits tall beside him, leaning her cheek against his whiskers. Behind them, a potted plant, a white porch post and a bit of lawn catch the warm afternoon light. The cat's coat is the color of marmalade and the dog's is salt and pepper. They look like a very well-matched pair.
Cats rub their cheeks against people and other animals to mark them with their scent, which can be a sign of affection and belonging. Orange tabbies have a reputation for being outgoing and affectionate, though personalities vary a lot. Miniature Schnauzers are devoted and watchful dogs, and they tend to bond closely with their families. Because their facial hair collects water and food, regular cleaning helps keep it neat. When a dog and a cat spend time sitting close like this, it's often a sign they've bonded well, and that deserves a few extra treats for both.
The two sit like old neighbors. Neither seems in a hurry and neither has anything to prove. A set of steps in the sun is a perfect place for a friendship to settle into the afternoon. By evening the stone will still be warm, and they'll probably still be right there.
