The Pomeranian Claimed the Box First. Then Came a Very Big Roommate.
Somewhere between the couch and the kitchen, a cardboard box turned into the hottest seat in the house. A fluffy sable Pomeranian sits inside with his ears perked and his dark eyes watchful, while a brown and white calf tucks herself right up against him, her pink nose resting near the torn edge of the box. Behind them, a gray sofa with a yellow blanket and a basket of plants complete the scene. Call the dog Pip and the calf Maple.
Cats get most of the credit for loving boxes, but plenty of dogs enjoy a snug hiding spot too. Enclosed spaces can feel secure, and many pets like a place that holds their body heat and blocks drafts. Pomeranians are small, alert dogs with big personalities, and they often act far bolder than their size suggests. That confidence helps explain why a tiny dog might happily share space with an animal many times his weight.
If your own pet likes boxes, they are a cheap and safe bit of enrichment as long as you remove any tape, staples, or loose plastic first. Watch for chewing, since swallowed cardboard is no fun for anyone. A box with a low entrance gives shy pets an easy way in and out.
Pip keeps his post like a tiny doorman, and Maple seems perfectly happy to be the passenger. Nobody here is worried about leg room.
