The Great Dane Was Far Too Big for the Couch, but He Shared It Anyway
The fawn Great Dane's long, dark-muzzled face is resting on the couch cushion, and the little white lamb is curled up right beside him, with her head almost touching his. His brow is relaxed, and her fleece looks like a heap of white wool. A window with soft curtains and a plant on the sill fill the background. The couch seems far too small for the dog, but he is making it work for both of them.
Great Danes are among the largest dog breeds, yet they are often known for being gentle, calm and affectionate. They tend to enjoy being close to their people and can be surprisingly good with smaller animals when well trained. Because of their size, they need space and sturdy furniture, and owners must watch their joints as they age. Lambs like to be close to a warm companion, and a large dog offers plenty of warmth. Still, a lamb should never be left alone with a dog, as accidents can happen, and a young lamb needs the care of its mother or a farmer. Keep an eye on any couch time, and make sure neither animal can fall. Rest is good for every pet. Ask your vet about bedding and joint care if your big dog likes to nap on hard surfaces.
The Dane's peaceful face says it all. A very big dog can be the softest friend of all.
