A Smiling Scarecrow on the Porch Found an Unlikely Napping Buddy

AI imagehalloweencalico kittenscarecrow

A cheerful scarecrow slumps against the porch wall, its burlap face painted with a stitched smile and a carrot-orange triangle nose, straw poking out from the cuffs of a red plaid shirt and from beneath a floppy hat. Curled up right at its side, as though the two were old friends, a calico kitten has fallen fast asleep on the weathered boards. Her patchy coat of orange, black, and white is tucked into a tight curl, her eyes are squeezed shut, and one white paw rests limply in front of her nose. Gourds, pumpkins, a plaid blanket, and a plastic spider decorate the porch around them.

Kittens sleep a lot, often napping on and off for much of the day between bursts of wild play. All that rest supports their rapid growth and development. If you watch closely, you may see a sleeping kitten twitch her whiskers, paddle her paws, or flick her ears. These little movements often happen during the deeper, dreaming phase of sleep, and they're completely normal. It's best not to wake a kitten abruptly, as a startled kitten may scratch or nip on instinct. Giving her a warm, safe place to nap where she won't be disturbed, like a soft bed in a quiet corner, helps her get the rest she needs.

This little one has found her own unique spot, next to a quiet companion who never moves, never snores, and never takes up too much of the blanket.

The scarecrow was supposed to keep visitors away. It seems to have attracted one instead.
