There's a Tombstone in the Front Yard, and Something Fluffy Is Leaning on It
Low autumn sun slants across the front yard, lighting up a weathered gray tombstone prop planted in the grass among the fallen leaves. Tucked right against it, a fluffy gray kitten with a round, flat face and small folded-forward ears gazes off to the side with big copper eyes. Her plush coat almost matches the faux stone behind her, so she looks like a tiny, soft gargoyle who wandered off her post. A shrub, a window, and a doormat sit in the background of this spooky-but-sweet scene.
Front-yard Halloween displays can get elaborate, and it's worth thinking about pets when you set them up. Heavy props like tombstones should be firmly anchored so they can't tip onto a curious animal. Extension cords for lights, inflatables, and animated figures can be chewed, so tuck them away or cover them. Fog machines, flashing lights, and decorations that suddenly move or scream can frighten cats and dogs, so give pets a calm indoor space when those are running. Fake cobwebs and small plastic pieces should be kept out of reach too. Walk your yard after setup to look for anything that might tempt or trap a pet.
This kitten doesn't seem frightened in the least. If anything, she's treating the tombstone like a handy windbreak while she watches the leaves blow by.
The yard was meant to be spooky. One small gray visitor has made it adorable instead.
