The Candy Bowl Is Ready by the Open Door, and So Is the Official Greeter

AI imagehalloweenragdoll kittencandy safety

The front door stands open to a golden afternoon, a wreath of pinecones, mini pumpkins, and eucalyptus hangs on the glass, and a ceramic bowl brimming with wrapped candy waits on the mat for the first trick-or-treaters. Sitting right beside it is a fluffy cream kitten with soft gray-tinged ears and bright blue eyes. She gazes off toward the door, tail curled around her paws, looking as though she's been appointed official greeter. Coats on hooks, a tote bag, and sneakers line the entryway wall.

Her pale coat, darker points beginning to show on her ears, and sapphire eyes are the classic look of a young Ragdoll. Pointed kittens like her are born nearly white, with their darker color developing gradually as they grow. Ragdolls are known for being calm, affectionate, and famously relaxed when held. As for that candy bowl, it's one to keep out of paws' reach. Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs, some sugar-free candies and gums contain xylitol, which is very dangerous for dogs, and foil or plastic wrappers can cause choking or intestinal blockages if swallowed. If you suspect a pet has eaten candy or wrappers, call your vet or a pet poison hotline right away.

This kitten seems more interested in the open door than the treats, which is a different kind of risk. A quiet room during trick-or-treat hours might be the best spot for her tonight.

The candy is for the visitors. The best treat at this house, though, has whiskers.
