The Whole House Was Busy, but One Ginger Kitten Had the Best Spot
Sunlight is slanting across the wooden floor, and a tiny ginger kitten has found the coziest spot in the room: a chunky red knit blanket, bunched up just right. The kitten is curled into a perfect orange spiral, nose tucked toward its paws, eyes closed, one pointed ear catching the glow. Behind it, a small Christmas tree twinkles beside a woven basket, and a pair of slippers sits forgotten near the couch, as if the whole room has agreed to stay quiet.
Kittens sleep a surprising amount, often well over half the day, and they tend to pick soft, snug places that hold in warmth. Young kittens cannot regulate body temperature as well as adult cats, so a blanket that feels like a nest is irresistible. If you offer a kitten a bed near the action of a busy holiday house, add a quiet corner too, since all that growing needs deep, uninterrupted rest. Knit blankets with big loops can catch tiny claws, so a tight weave is safer for little ones.
Holiday trees add a couple of things worth remembering: keep the water covered, skip tinsel, and tuck cords out of reach. For now, though, the only thing happening here is a deep nap. The tree can twinkle all it likes. Our little ginger, whom we might call Maple, has no plans to move until the sun does.
