The Gift Box Had a Red Bow, Tissue Paper, and a Surprise Inside

AI imagetortoiseshell kittengift boxchristmas

A tortoiseshell kitten is peering up out of a cardboard box, framed by crinkled white tissue paper and crowned with a big red bow. Its eyes are wide and round, and its coat is a mix of black, orange, and caramel patches. The room behind is relaxed and lived-in, with a navy knit blanket, a warm mug on the coffee table, and a tree glowing in the corner.

Tortoiseshell cats are known for a patchwork coat of black and orange, and they are almost always female. Many owners describe them as spirited, with plenty of personality, sometimes called tortitude. Whether or not that is a scientific fact, it makes for good stories. As for the box, cats are famously drawn to them. A box offers a snug fit, a place to hide, and a spot to watch the room unseen. Tissue paper is fun to crinkle, but ribbons and bows should be removed before play, since swallowed string can be dangerous.

Perhaps this one, whom we will call Patches, got into the gift box before the gift was in it. Either way, the present has been upgraded. Nothing wrapped under the tree could be quite as delightful as this tiny face looking out. The crinkly tissue paper makes a perfect little nest, and the bow on top has become a hat of sorts, balanced on the edge of the lid. Whoever opens this present is in for a wonderful surprise.
