Frost Covered the Window, and One Small Kitten Stood Guard

AI imagetortoiseshell kittenfrosty windowwreath

Frost has drawn feathery patterns across the cold windowpane, and a tortoiseshell kitten sits right beside them with front paws neatly together. Its coat swirls in black, orange, and gold, and its eyes look a little solemn, as if it is guarding the glass. Above, an evergreen wreath studded with pinecones and red berries hangs against the window. Behind the kitten, a gray blanket lies over a chair and a potted plant waits next to a lamp.

Cats love a sunny or scenic sill, but cold glass can be chilly for a small body. A folded blanket or a window-seat cushion makes the spot much cozier and still lets a kitten enjoy the view. Real greenery deserves a note of caution: some holiday plants, such as mistletoe, holly, and lilies, are poisonous to cats, and pine needles can upset a stomach if chewed. Hang wreaths well out of reach, or choose artificial ones, and check with your vet if you suspect your cat has nibbled something.

With that serious little face, we can call this guardian Frostine. She watches the day turn blue and cold while the room behind her stays warm and golden. It is a lovely contrast, a snug indoor cat in front of winter's own artwork, with nothing to worry about but the next snowflake. A kitten at a window is often watching for far more than we realize, from the drift of a flake to the shadow of a passing bird.
