A Kitten Helped With the Lights, and the Lights Helped Right Back

AI imagetortoiseshell kittenchristmas lightstangled

Somewhere between helping and playing, a tortoiseshell kitten has ended up wrapped in a nest of string lights. Its soft coat is mottled in black, orange, and caramel, its ears are folded forward, and its wide eyes meet the camera with an innocent look that says it has no idea how this happened. Thin copper wire swirls around its paws, and small green bulb holders poke out here and there. Warm sunlight from a window spills across the floor behind.

Tangled in lights is a cute moment, but cords really are a hazard for kittens. Chewing on a live wire can cause burns or shock, and wrapped wire can restrict movement or cut off circulation. Always unplug light strands when a kitten is nearby, keep cords tucked out of reach, and consider using cord covers or a bitter-tasting spray made for pets. If a kitten becomes tangled, stay calm, keep it still, and untangle one loop at a time. Contact your vet if you notice any injury or if it chewed the wire.

Our little tangle, who we might call Sparkle, does not seem frightened, just surprised by the sudden new outfit. The wires will come off, the lights will go back on the tree, and everyone will have a story to tell. Meanwhile, this kitten is the best decoration in the room.
