The Porch Light Came On, and a Kitten Was Waiting on the Step
Dusk is settling over the porch, and a small ruddy kitten sits on a snow-covered step wrapped in pine garland. Its ears are huge, its big green-gold eyes stare directly at the camera, and its paws are tucked in front on the white. A warm lantern glows by the door, and a faint light spills out of the house. The steps are painted a soft blue, and pinecones peek through the greenery.
Abyssinian cats are known for their slender build, large ears, and a coat with a warm ticked pattern. They are active, curious, and often described as playful, which means they usually need lots of toys and climbing spots to stay happy. Their short coat gives little protection against winter weather, though, so a porch visit should be brief and always supervised. Check that garland has no loose tinsel or wire, and keep wreaths and greenery out of reach, since chewing on plants can upset a cat's stomach.
We will call this adventurer Ginger, and she seems to be waiting for someone special to open the door. The snow, the lantern, and that curious face make a cozy and quiet evening scene. Inside, a warm bed is surely waiting, along with a family who will be glad she came home. Kittens on a snowy step always seem to be thinking something deep, though most likely it is just where the next warm lap might be.
