The Antlers Were a Little Crooked, but the Golden Pup Didn't Mind
A cream-colored Golden Retriever puppy sits on a snowy porch with a pair of brown felt reindeer antlers tied above its floppy ears. Its dark eyes look gentle and a little unsure, and its black nose gleams. Behind it, a blue door holds a wreath dusted with snow, a small potted evergreen waits by the railing, and white snow covers the wooden boards and the steps.
Golden Retrievers are among the most popular family dogs, known for being friendly, patient, and eager to please. As puppies, they love to carry things in their mouths, which suits their history as retrievers, and they often enjoy water and play. Because they are active, they need daily exercise and plenty of attention. In snow, watch for cold paws and clumps of ice between the toes, and wipe off any salt after a walk, since it can irritate skin. Antlers are fun for a minute, but always check that the headband is not too tight.
We will call this pup Biscuit, and he wears the antlers with soft dignity. The porch is quiet and white, and the puppy seems to enjoy the calm. Few things say winter better than a gentle puppy, a little snow, and a wreath on the door, and this one has all three. Golden puppies tend to take everything in stride, even a pair of felt antlers that refuse to sit straight.
