Three Stockings Hung Above, and a Tiny Pup Slept Soundly Below
A scruffy gray puppy sleeps on a woven rug with its legs tucked under and its chin resting on the floor. Above it, three knit stockings, one cream, one gray, and one rust orange, hang from a rustic wooden mantel decorated with greenery, orange slices, pinecones, and a candle. Late sunlight pours through the window, and a rope toy and a woven basket sit nearby. The whole room feels warm and still.
Puppies need a lot of sleep, and a rug on the floor is just right for many of them, giving a bit of cushion and a place close to the family. It is best to let sleeping puppies rest and avoid waking them for play. A mantel is lovely for stockings, but it is also a spot where candles and hot decorations can be a danger. Keep candles well out of reach of curious noses and tails, and never leave a flame unattended with pets in the room. Treat stockings for dogs should hold safe, puppy-friendly toys.
We will call this dreamer Smudge. His scruffy ears twitch slightly, and he seems to be in the middle of a happy dream. The stockings will soon be filled, but Smudge has already received his gift, a warm rug and a long afternoon nap. A sleeping puppy in a sunbeam is one of the simplest pleasures of the season, and nobody in the house will want to disturb him.
