The Turkey Is Just a Memory. One Guest Is Sleeping It Off Right on the Table.
The plates are scraped, the green beans are cold, and the turkey is just a memory. In the middle of it all, a blue-gray Russian Blue kitten has curled into a tight crescent on a red and black plaid blanket spread across the table, eyes shut, tail wrapped neatly around his paws. His plush silvery coat looks almost velvet in the warm afternoon light. Around him lies the aftermath of the feast: a dish of leftover green beans, a bowl of cranberry sauce, plates with bits of turkey and stuffing, crumpled napkins, and a half-full glass of water by the window.
Russian Blues are known for their dense, shimmering blue-gray double coats and striking green eyes, which start out a different color in kittenhood and change as they grow. They're typically gentle, quiet, and loyal, sometimes a little reserved with strangers but very affectionate with their families. That shy streak is worth keeping in mind during holiday gatherings. Big crowds and noise can overwhelm sensitive cats, so it helps to set up a quiet room with a bed, water, food, and a litter box where a kitten can retreat. Clearing leftovers promptly also keeps curious noses away from bones and rich foods.
This little gray guest clearly found his own peaceful corner. After all the excitement, a post-feast nap on a soft blanket sounds like the right idea for everyone.
