The Smallest Vampire Bat in Town Is Sitting on a Blue Porch, Ready for the Night
Out on a blue-painted porch, the smallest vampire bat in town is ready for the night. A cream Exotic Shorthair sits on the boards with a pair of black felt bat wings strapped across his back, his round face, tiny ears, and big copper eyes giving him a look of serious, slightly bewildered concentration. Behind him, the porch is fully decked out: two glowing jack-o'-lanterns by the door, little orange pumpkins, paper bats fluttering across the windows, a wreath on the door, and pots of autumn mums beside the steps.
Halloween decorations have become more elaborate over the years, and some can startle pets. Motion-activated props that shriek, cackle, light up, or jump out can frighten cats and dogs, and a scared pet may bolt, hide for hours, or react defensively. If you plan to use them, let your pet see the decoration while it is turned off first, then introduce sounds at a low volume while offering treats. Placing animated pieces outside rather than indoors, and away from windows your cat likes to sit in, can help. Keep batteries, cords, and small parts out of reach, since chewing on them can cause injury.
This little bat seems more curious than scared about all the decorations around him. With his serious expression and his tiny wings, he might just be the spookiest, cutest thing on the street.
