One Gift Under the Tree Had Wrinkles and Floppy Ears
Out of the biggest box under the tree comes a wrinkled brindle face, ears folded back and eyes round with curiosity. A French Bulldog puppy has climbed into a plain cardboard gift box tied with a fat red bow, surrounded by crinkly red tissue paper, and he seems to believe that he is the present. In the soft blur behind him, a fireplace and lit tree glow warmly, and a pile of blankets waits on the couch.
French Bulldogs are affectionate, playful companions that fit well into apartments and busy homes. Their flat faces are charming, but they can overheat and have trouble breathing in hot or humid weather, so gentle exercise and a cool place to rest matter. Cold months are usually easier, though it is still sensible to avoid vigorous play right after a big meal and to talk to your vet about weight and breathing. As for boxes, most dogs and cats love enclosed spaces because they feel safe and snug. Just remove loose tape and ribbon, which can be chewed and swallowed, and make sure the box is not too small or tall to hop out of.
A bow is a fine hat, a box is a fine house, and a puppy is the finest gift of all. This one is clearly waiting for someone to notice him, and he does not have to wait long.
