Somebody Got to Santa's Cookies Before Santa Did
Crumbs are the first clue. A silver tabby Scottish Fold kitten has crept up to a plate of chocolate chip cookies and is sniffing the nearest one with intense concentration, tiny folded ears pressed forward and whiskers fanned out. The table around her is a cheerful jumble of holly leaves, wrapped parcels and an open book, and behind her a Christmas tree twinkles in the warm lamplight. She might be guarding the treats for Santa, or she might be thinking about her own plans for them.
Cookies are better left to people. Chocolate is poisonous to cats as well as dogs, and many baked goods contain raisins, nuts or sweeteners that can be harmful. Cats are also lured by butter and sugar, so keep plates covered or out of reach, and wipe up crumbs. If your kitten does eat something questionable, call your vet or a pet poison hotline promptly. Scottish Folds are known for their gentle, sweet temperament and rounded faces. The folded ears come from a genetic trait that can also affect cartilage and joints, so talk to your vet about the breed's special care needs and regular check-ups.
Santa is a patient visitor and will probably not mind a nose-print on the plate. By morning, the cookies will be gone, the milk will be a little low and the silver kitten will be sleeping the sleep of the very innocent.
