The Star Was Too Far Up for a Kitten Until Someone Gave Her a Lift

AI imagewhite kittenchristmas treetree star

Up she goes, held gently in a pair of steady hands, a small white kitten stretching toward the gold star at the top of the tree. Her ears are alert, her paws dangle and her blue eyes follow the sparkle. The tree is covered with white lights, wooden ornaments and pine cones, while a lamp glows warmly in the background and a bookshelf fills the corner of the room.

Handling a kitten properly keeps her safe and relaxed. Scoop her up with one hand under the chest and the other under the hind legs, and hold her against your body, rather than letting her dangle. Never pick up a cat by the scruff or legs alone, and put her down gently if she begins to wriggle. Kittens are curious and it is natural to want to share the festivities, but a tree is a risky climb for a small cat, so it is best to anchor it well and keep decorations she might swat or chew out of reach. Offer a scratching post and a cozy perch nearby for her own adventures.

The star is still a bit too far for a tiny paw, but that does not matter. She has the best view in the room, and everybody below is smiling up at her, which is a fine reward for being brave.
