A Cocker Spaniel Puppy in a Bee Suit Flopped Into the Leaves
Flat on the ground in a deep carpet of fall leaves, a buff Cocker Spaniel puppy wears a fuzzy bumblebee costume with yellow and black stripes, two small antennae and a pair of translucent wings. Long, silky ears drape over the sides, and the puppy looks up with a soft, thoughtful expression, as if wondering where the flowers are. A set of porch steps, a few pumpkins and some boots sit in the background.
Cocker Spaniels were bred as bird-hunting dogs, and that heritage shows in their keen noses and love of exploring. A pile of leaves is a perfect playground for them, full of interesting smells. Their long ears are lovely but need regular checking and cleaning, since heavy, hanging ears can trap moisture. After a romp in the leaves, look over the ears and coat for burrs and twigs, and brush gently.
Cockers are generally gentle, affectionate and eager to please, which makes them good companions for families. Puppies are playful and may be sensitive to harsh corrections, so patient, positive training works best. Costumes with wings and antennae can be fun, but make sure nothing dangles in a way that could get caught as the puppy runs or plays.
This little bee seems perfectly content to lie in the leaves for a while. The garden may be closed for the season, but the buzzing can wait until the next sunny day.
