A Dalmatian Became a Spotted Reindeer on the Snowy Porch
A Dalmatian sits on a porch dusted with snow, wearing a headband with brown reindeer antlers. Her black spots are crisp against the white fur, one ear is dark and the other speckled, and the eyes look off to the side with quiet curiosity. Paw prints cross the snowy boards behind her, and a blue house with a window and railing frames the scene.
Dalmatians are athletic, high-energy dogs known for their spots and their history as carriage dogs. They need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation, and they're often happiest with an active family. Their short coat doesn't offer much insulation in winter, so a cold day calls for a shorter walk or a coat. Wipe off paws after a snowy outing to remove ice, salt and anything else that may irritate the skin.
Winter walks come with a few hazards. De-icing salt can irritate paws and can be harmful if licked off, and antifreeze is very toxic to dogs and tastes sweet, so keep an eye out for puddles near cars. Antlers or headbands should stay snug but never tight, and the dog should never be left alone while wearing them.
For now, she's a spotted reindeer, ready for the holidays. It only takes a bit of snow to make her look like she's part of the team.
