A Weimaraner Stared Down the Mug of Hot Cocoa
Eye-level with a mug of hot cocoa, a silver grey Weimaraner rests his chin and front paws on the floor, staring at the table. Marshmallows float on top of the cocoa, a cinnamon stick juts out of the cup and a little pine garland frames the scene on the wood. Behind him, a couch with a blanket, a lit Christmas tree and some boxes in the corner complete a cozy living room.
This is a good moment to talk about chocolate. Cocoa and chocolate contain theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. Even a small amount of a rich drink can be a problem, depending on the dog's size. Marshmallows are not a healthy treat, and some sweeteners such as xylitol are very dangerous. Keep mugs out of reach, and if your dog drinks cocoa, call your vet or an animal poison hotline.
Weimaraners are clever and persistent, which is why a mug on a low table can look like a challenge. Their strong noses and speed make them quick opportunists. Consider placing drinks and snacks on higher surfaces, and give your dog a chew toy or a frozen dog-safe treat so he has something to do while you enjoy your drink.
For now, the cocoa is safe, and the Weimaraner is practicing patience. Hopefully, someone will offer him a better treat soon.
